Every Yankee fan knows that Babe Ruth clubbed the first home run in the history of Yankee Stadium, a 1st inning 3-run blast off of Howard Ehmke. However, few are aware that Ruth had a more ignominious first a few innings later. Ruth, playing in right field, dropped a fly ball in the 5th inning for the first error at Yankee Stadium. The Yanks beat the Red Sox 4-1 in that game on April 18, 1923, for their first of many victories in the Bronx.
