The New York Highlanders, the franchise’s inaugural team, were certainly not known as the Bronx Bombers.  They finished the 1903 season with just 18 long balls in 134 games, but all great dynasties need to start somewhere.  John Ganzel, the squad’s first baseman, has the distinction of hitting the first of the team’s 14,772 home runs in an 8-2 win over Detroit, his first of a team-leading 3 on the season.
