#55 Greatest HR in Yankee History

October 10, 2012

Paul O’Neill | 3 HR | vs. California Angels | 8/31/1995

In his 3rd season in New York, Paul O’Neill had one of his career defining moments in pinstripes.  In a late summer matchup with the Angels, he swatted 3 home runs and tallied 8 RBIs in leading the Bombers to an 11-6 victory.  He began the day with a 3-run bomb to deep right center field in the 1st that scored Wade Boggs and Bernie Williams.  His 2nd blast was only an inning away as another 3-run shot found the seats in deep right center again, plating Randy Velarde and Williams to give the Yanks a 7-0 lead.  In the 5th his 3rd homer, a solo shot, landed in the bleachers in right field.  His final hit of the day came in the 6th when his single to centerfield scored Pat Kelly.  His accomplishment was the 20th time a Yankee has notched 3 home runs in a single game.
