Derek Jeter | World Series Game 4 | vs. New York Mets | 10/25/2000

After a comeback win the night before, the Mets looked to even the series in front of 55,290 raucous fans at Shea Stadium.  Their pitcher was Bobby Jones, who pitched a 1-hit gem against the Giants in the Division Series.  Derek Jeter was the leadoff hitter…

Here we go, first pitch time 8:31–and Jeter swings, hits a high drive to left, it is high, it is far, it is GONE!  Derek Jeter hits a first ball fastball deep to the bleachers in left field, and on the first pitch of the game the Yankees take a 1-0 lead!

Jeter’s face as he rounded the bases said it all.  There was not a trace of disbelief, or excitement, or even arrogance.  On his face was the knowledge that he and his team were good, and would prevail.  Jeter’s homer secured crucial momentum for the Yanks as they went on to win the game 3-2 to take a 3-1 lead in the series.
