8 days after tying game 2 of the ALDS in the 9th inning, Alex Rodriguez and the Yankees enjoyed some déjà vu against their AL West foes in a 5 hour, 10 minute marathon in the Bronx.  In the bottom of the 11th inning, after the Angels had scratched out a run following 5 straight scoreless innings, Brian Fuentes was tasked with saving the game before a return trip to California.  The tall, left-hander led the Majors in ’09 with 48 saves, but he ran into the hottest hitter in baseball on that rainy October night.

A-Rod led off the inning and quickly fell into an o-2 count against the aggressive fireballer, but on the next pitch Rodriguez cracked a line drive to the opposite field, just out of reach of right fielder Bobby Abreu.  The Yanks would go on to win, 4-3, in a wild, 13th-inning finish when Angels’ second baseman Maicer Izturis threw the ball away on an attempted double play, scoring Jerry Hairston, Jr.

As soon as he tied it, we knew we were going to win this game.  We don’t give up.  We really don’t.
